The Workforce Education Coach ensures that participants who are in training to be early childhood educators are getting the direction needed to successfully teach and implement the assigned curriculum and practices which promote high quality learning and school readiness. The Workforce Education Coach is a role model and mentor for the staff, volunteers, participants, families and children. They will share information about child development, best practices, and encourage family engagement in the classroom, center, and agency. In collaboration with the Center Managers, Success Coaches, Mentor Teachers, the Workforce Education Coach creates an environment that reflects the cultural values and diversity of the children, families, and participants served in the program. They will provide orientation, guidance, reflection, coaching, on-going training, and support the implementation of course work and child development knowledge and foundations to participants in the Wu Yee workforce pathways. that works with program participants during their time in the pathway program and up to 6 months after successfully completing the program, in order to ensure  that the program participants are successful in achieving their educational goals and are retained in their chosen pathway.  

Full time 40 hours perweek, Monday - FridayHours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with participants, mentor teachers, and success coaches. 
  • Work with the child development managers to develop a schedule for conducting classroom observations as a foundation for determining needs. 
  • Support participants with one-on-one coaching sessions on a bi-monthly basis. 
  • Develop individual coaching plans, with specific goals and areas for growth identified, which are based on classroom and mentor teacher observations for each of the new-to -the workforce participants. 
  • Submit coaching plans to review with the Workforce Program Manager and Mentor Teachers.
  • Follow-up on individual participants' requests for technical assistance and document the nature of the training provided. 
  • Host bi-monthly professional learning cohort for each pathway.
  • Host a monthly professional learning cohort for each pathway.
  • Join monthly Child Development Education Meetings Collaborate with the Child Development Department's Education Coaches for the incumbent workforce teachers. 
  • Provide support and constructive feedback to participants for learning and growth. This may include modeling activities, reading material, or other resources needed to guide learning.
  • Train participants and maintain support as needed while they gain knowledge of their role and the responsibilities of their position. 
  • Plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes. 
  • Promote best practices in early learning childhood development based on California Preschool and infant /toddler foundations Head Start Performances Standards, the Department of Early Childhood's quality Standards, Creative Curriculum, PITC Philosophy, Teaching Pyramid Framework, and California Community Care Licensing. 
  • Use reflective practice and additional strategies to support teachers to promote positive outcomes for the teaching staff and the children they influence. 
  • Maintain Professional and Ethical Standards. 
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Agency policy and legal requirements. 
  • Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children. 
  • Attend mandated training and meetings and seek out staff development opportunities. 
  • Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.
  • Act conscientiously in performing routine duties.
  • Participate in the annual program Self-Assessment, as needed.
  • Provide input on School readiness goals, family engagement, and dual-language instruction to inform curriculum development program-wide. 
  • Collaborate with the Center Managers, Regional Managers, Success Coaches, and Mentor Teachers on a Professional Development Plan for the program participants. 
  • Work in Partnership with Child Development's Professional Development Specialist in supporting participants' child development permit application and permit advising. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in child Development and or Early Childhood Education. 
  • A minimum of 6 years of Teaching experience with young children and diverse populations.
  • 2 years of experience leading a team in implementing a developmental and age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and other staff.
  • Good communication, as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude
  • Demonstrated competence in supporting families
  • Models good judgement, effective problem solving and priority setting skills. 
  • Proficiency in various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power-Point.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, required to stoop, Kneel, Climb.
  • Bilingual Spanish / English preferred.
