The Health Services Specialist is responsible for supporting the Health Services team in data entry and health and dental follow up. The Health Services Specialist will work closely with the Health Services Manager and Health Services Coordinator and assist in meeting Head Start, Early Head Start, California Department of Education and California Department of Social Services health requirements and health deadlines for all enrolled children. 

Positon:  Monday - Friday | Full time 40 hours per week.

Child Health Services Specialist Responsiblities 

  • Ensure that all health records received through CDHealth email are entered accurately and timely in our health tracking systems and follow up correspondence is made when necessary.
  • Assist in updating health PIR (Program Information Report) when entering health records in our health tracking systems.
  • Assist and ensure that new children and children transitioning to a different program option have the proper orientation health paperwork, up-to-date immunization records and medical paperwork (if applicable) to start school.
  • Assist and ensure that all enrolled children are meeting the 30 day, 45 day and 90 day health deadline requirements and correspond with Family Services Staff, Center Managers and Content Managers to meet those requirements.
  • Assist and ensure that all enrolled children are following their EPSDT Schedule for any health and dental screenings/exams and correspond with Family Services Staff, Center Managers and Content Managers.
  • Maintains detailed, accurate, up-to-date and confidential records in health services tracking systems. Review data entered into our data system to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and that necessary corrections are made.
  • Assist the Health Services Manager and Health Services Coordinator in compiling data reports and review health trends of enrolled children.
  • Check center meal counts and correspond with Center Managers/Center Designees when meal count discrepancies are found for their site on a weekly basis.
  • Assist with onsite health screenings for children such as growth assessment, vision screening, hearing screening, Hemoglobin screening and blood pressure screening.
  • Assist with health education workshops and staff training.
  • Assist in identifying health, dental, emergency and nutrition service resources within the community.
  • Participate in weekend outreach events on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Child Health Services Specialist Requirements:

  • Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, Child Development or relevant field is required. Bachelor's preferred. 
  • One year of experience working with children and/or pregnant women preferred
  • One year of experience working in the health, child care, social work or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of resources about pediatric, local health department regulation and community health clinics preferred
  • One year of experience with data entry, monitoring, reporting, and follow up
  • Ability and willingness to work in a program located in a high-risk, low-income community
  • Ability to communicate and respond in a manner that consistently demonstrates respect and concern
  • Ability to travel to various early learning centers within San Francisco to provide onsite health screening
  • Must be adept at prioritizing, organizing and following through; able to balance multiple competing priorities
  • Experience working with children and families of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Education:

  • Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, Child Development or relevant field is required. 
  • Bahelors's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, Child Development or relevant field is preferred.
